The temperature has seemed to drop drastically in the last couple of weeks, and winter is fast approaching. We have noticed that once the temperature drops, we start to get a lot more calls that are related to house insurance. Whether it be through the restoration companies that we work with or elsewhere, November is when the plumbing and flood related calls start to pour in (literally)!
We perform a lot of work for insurance companies, but we have been starting to tell our clients more recently that it is not always beneficial to go through house insurance for the smaller claims. If you find yourself in this position, we recommend that you (the home owner) talk to your insurance provider and weigh out the cost of the initial damage deposit as well as how your insurance premiums will change after the claim (by how much and for how long). You may find that there is significant cost savings if you know of a local contractor that can help bring in the right trades for the drywall work, flooring, cabinetry, finish carpentry, painting or whatever else needs to be done in your home.
If this is your case or if you know of someone in this situation, please give us a call at 604-626-2480 or fill in our short contact form so we can help you determine the best and most cost effective course of action.
